Auckland Ship Brokers Limited (ASL) is a team of professional Shipbrokers with a clear focus on the Sale and Purchase of international tonnage. While our focus is mainly trading vessels outside of New Zealand, we do have a substantial local clientele and are always delighted to receive S & P inquires from local commercial operators and owners. We are located right on the waterfront in the Auckland's Western Viaduct, adjacent to Emirates Team New Zealand.

Rather than performing the role of just another broker, ASL was formed to provide a level of service and technical support not previously offered by others in the industry while offering buyers and sellers a highly professional trading agency.

Although we are Auckland based we are very active through out the Island Nations of the South West Pacific including Fiji, Tonga, Samoa the Cooks, Tahiti, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu with our associates operating ships in these areas so we understand what works in your areas. We have clients and regular dealings with owners and / or brokers in Australia, PNG, Micronesia and South East Asia.

Our clear priority to sellers is to maximise the sale price of your vessel efficiently, by the most appropriate means and in the shortest possible time. As buyers you will find that we go to considerable lengths to ensure that all possible information is available on the vessel and that subsequent negotiations on your behalf are expedited in the most efficient and professional manner drawing on the skills and experience of qualified shipbrokers.

ASL has formed a strategic alliance with other key marine professionals which has placed us in a unique position, not only to assist with the sale or purchase of your vessel but to provide direction and advice on a range of aspects. We provide solutions for design, management and commissioning of new builds or conversion of existing vessels, and can walk you through the survey and safe ship management process.

ASL shares offices with Marine Surveyors, Marine Engineers, Loss Adjusters and Naval Architects, providing a one stop shop for all your marine consultancy needs. If we can't directly assist you we will know who can.

John Thacker BSc

A graduate of Massey University with a background in science and agronomy, John’s interest in the sea and shipping developed as a cruising sailor to developing post harvest strategies for the reefer shipment of export crops he worked on in New Zealand and around the Pacific. He spent sea time on reefer ships which has more recently been supplemented by assisting in ship deliveries including those of a number of vessels he has personally sold. John is completing papers for the Fellowship of the London based Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

He has successfully negotiated the sale and purchase of many commercial vessels over the past five years, some of which have been sold offshore.

Aaron Ferguson
Shipbroker & Co-Director

Aaron has a strong commercial background in shipping, having spent the last 12 years operating various types of vessels in the capacity of either Chief Engineer or Deck Officer. Aaron’s seagoing career has mainly been spent in the Oil, Gas and Marine Survey Industries, on many projects around the world from New Zealand to the Middle East.

More recently Aarons focus has turned towards a shore based career in ship brokering and he has recently completed a Diploma in Marine Surveying via the UK based International Institute of Marine Surveyors.
